Personal Effectiveness Qualification (PEQ)

The Personal Effectiveness Qualification (PEQ) is a flexible, engaging programme designed to help learners develop the core skills they need for life, learning and work.

It strengthens communication, decision-making, teamwork, problem-solving, planning and wellbeing — all through practical, meaningful activities.

At All Ways Learning, the PEQ is delivered as a Learn With Me programme for both Level 2 and Level 3 learners.

The content is the same, but the depth, independence and quality of output increases at Level 3.

This makes the PEQ ideal for mixed-ability groups, neurodiverse learners, home-educated young people and those who benefit from clear structure, guided learning and real-world application.

Who is the PEQ for?

Level 2 (Age 14+)

Perfect for learners who are beginning two develop their independence and want to build strong foundations in communication, teamwork, planning and wellbeing.
Level 2 learners complete the same activities as Level 3, but with simpler evidence requirements and more structured support.

Level 3 (Post-16)

Designed for learners who are ready to work with more independence and produce deeper, more analytical evidence.
Level 3 builds the skills needed for higher-level study, apprenticeships and employment.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 (Age 14+)

There are no formal entry requirements.
Learners simply need basic English and Maths abilities and the motivation to take part in weekly sessions and complete short, guided tasks.

Level 3 (Post-16)

To access Level 3 confidently, learners must have:

  • Level 2 Maths and English (Functional Skills or GCSE grade 4)
  • Be aged 16+

These requirements ensure learners can meet the higher-level writing, analysis and reflection expected at Level 3.

How it Works

The PEQ runs from March to August, with a clear, supportive structure:

  • Weekly 1 hour live Learn With Me session supported by an optional 30 minute portfolio builder session
  • Around 2.5 hours of guided self-directed study each week
  • Practical activities that bring the skills to life
  • Step-by-step instructions and templates
  • Evidence building through three core projects:
    • Small Business Quest
    • Puzzle Problems
    • Progression Planning

Learners build a portfolio that demonstrates communication, decision-making, teamwork, thinking skills, learning skills and wellbeing in learning.

Cost

To keep the PEQ accessible for home-educated and self-funding families, the full programme is available in two payment options:

✔ £450 upfront

or

Level 3 Extended Project Qualification

Enrolling now

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification worth up to 28 UCAS points, making it a valuable pathway for learners aiming for higher education, apprenticeships or skilled employment.

ASDAN’s EPQ gives young people the chance to design and complete a substantial, meaningful project based on something they genuinely care about. It develops the skills that universities, employers and training providers look for: independent study, critical thinking, planning, research and evaluation.

What is the EPQ?

The EPQ is a single, indepth project that requires a high level of planning,

preparation and autonomous working.

Learners can choose one of two formats:

  •  A 5,000 word dissertation
  • An artefact or performance, supported by a 1,000 word report

This flexibility means learners can shape their project around their interests, future

goals or even a work experience placement, creating a clear line of sight to

employment and training.

The EPQ is available to learners aged 16+ in England and Northern Ireland, and

ASDAN’s specification is fully aligned with those offered by other awarding

organisations.

How it works

Entry Requirements

The Level 3 EPQ is designed for young people who are ready to work more independently and develop higher-level study skills. To make sure learners can access the qualification confidently and safely, the following entry requirements apply:

✔ Maths and English at Level 2

Learners must already have achieved Level 2 in both Maths and English (Functional skills or GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent).
These skills are essential for managing research, writing, analysis and evaluation at Level 3.

✔ Studying at least one other Level 2 qualification

Learners should be working towards at least one additional Level 2 qualification alongside the EPQ.
This ensures they have a solid academic or vocational foundation to link their project to.

✔ Aged 16+

The EPQ is a Level 3 qualification and is suitable for learners who are post-16 and on a full-time programme of study, whether home educated, EOTAS, or in alternative provision.

Who is the EPQ suitable for?

The EPQ is ideal for learners who:

  • Are curious, motivated and ready to explore a topic in depth
  • Want to strengthen their research, planning and independent learning skills
  • Are preparing for university, apprenticeships or skilled employment
  • Would benefit from a structured, supported pathway that builds confidence and autonomy

Why choose the EPQ?

The EPQ complements both vocational and academic study. It strengthens the transferable skills that support progression into university, apprenticeships and employment, including:

  • Independent learning
  • Critical thinking
  • Research and analysis
  • Planning and organisation
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication and teamwork
  • Evaluation and reflection

EPQ includes a 30-hour taught element to build essential project skills, this can be completed through ‘learn at your own pace’ self-directed learning with supervisor guidance or ‘learn with me’ attending fortnightly live sessions in a small group setting.

  • Learners choose their own project topic
  • Projects can link to a programme of study, future career, or work placement
  • Fully supported with high-quality teaching and learning resources
  • Worth up to 28 UCAS points

Why learners thrive with All Ways Learning

Our delivery is designed for neurodiverse, alternative and SEND-friendly learners who benefit from:

  • Clear structure and step-by-step guidance
  • Supportive teaching that builds confidence
  • Flexible pathways: Learn With Me or Learn At Your Own Pace
  • Real-world application through work placement links
  • A calm, encouraging environment where learners can explore their interests deeply

The EPQ is more than a qualification, it’s a chance for young people to discover what they’re capable of and take ownership of their future.

EPQ Cost & Funding Options

At All Ways Learning, I want every young person who would benefit from the EPQ to be able to access it, whether they are home educated, EOTAS, or learning independently without local authority funding.

As each learner’s situation is different, the cost of the EPQ varies depending on the support and reporting requirements involved.

Home Educated Learners

Home-educating families often need a flexible, affordable route into Level 3 qualifications.
To make the EPQ accessible, I offer a reduced home-education rate, through two pathways:

Learn at your own pace:

  • Full access to the 30-hour taught element, through our online learning system
  • Monthly meetings to offer step-by-step project guidance
  • Regular feedback on work uploaded
  • Portfolio support
  • Final submission and internal moderation

*Deadline still applies, either for a August OR March submission*

£450 one off payment or £42 monthly for 12 months

Learn with me:

  • Full access to the 30-hour taught element, through fortnightly live small group sessions
  • Monthly meetings to offer individual step-by-step project guidance
  • Regular feedback on work uploaded
  • Portfolio support
  • Final submission and internal moderation

£200 one of sign up cost and then monthly payments of £60 for 6 months.

These options are designed to keep costs manageable for families who are self-funding, while still providing the structure and support needed to complete a high-quality EPQ.

EOTAS / Local Authority-Funded Learners

For EOTAS learners, the EPQ includes additional elements required by local authorities, such as:

  • Individual learning plans
  • Progress reporting
  • Safeguarding and attendance monitoring
  • Multi-agency communication
  • Evidence tracking for LA oversight

Because of these statutory requirements, the EOTAS package is costed differently and includes all reporting and compliance expected by local authorities.
